SciFi BCN opens its first edition with a special Opening Gala featuring the screening of a science-fiction classic, presented in celebration of its 25th anniversary.

The Opening Gala sets the tone for the festival: a shared cinematic experience that brings together the genre’s past, present, and future. Revisiting a film that has shaped the imagination of generations is also a way of reaffirming what SciFi BCN stands for—science fiction as spectacle, as thought experiment, and as collective memory.

An evening to celebrate science fiction on the big screen, and to officially kick off the first edition of SciFi BCN.

Dive into the world of science fiction through tabletop games in this three-hour open gaming session. Explore distant planets, alternate futures, artificial intelligences, and cosmic conflicts using a selection of sci-fi–themed board and role-playing games.

Whether you are an experienced player or completely new to tabletop gaming, this activity is designed to be welcoming and participatory. Games will be explained on site, and no prior knowledge is required—just curiosity and a love for science fiction.

SciFi BCN presents the first screening block of its Official Short Film Selection, featuring a curated program of short films chosen from nearly 1,000 submissions from around the world.

This first block opens the Official Selection with a diverse range of voices, styles, and speculative visions, showcasing the breadth of contemporary science fiction in short format. From intimate futures to cosmic questions, these films set the tone for the competition.

SciFi BCN té l’orgull de presentar El hombre perseguido por un O.V.N.I., una peça clau de la història del cinema català i la primera pel·lícula de ciència-ficció realitzada a Catalunya.

En la primera edició de SciFi BCN, mirar cap als orígens del gènere era gairebé una obligació. Programar la primera pel·lícula catalana de ciència-ficció en la primera edició del festival és un gest carregat de simbolisme i, alhora, una declaració d’intencions: SciFi BCN vol entendre la ciència-ficció no només com una mirada cap al futur, sinó també com un patrimoni cultural viu.

La projecció comptarà amb la presència de Juan Carlos Olaria, director del film, una oportunitat excepcional per redescobrir aquesta obra de culte de la mà del seu creador.

The second block of the Official Short Film Selection continues the competition screenings at SciFi BCN, bringing together another group of standout works selected from an exceptionally large international pool.

This program deepens the festival’s exploration of science fiction, pushing narrative, visual, and conceptual boundaries, and highlighting the creativity and risk-taking that define the genre today.

The third and final block of the Official Short Film Selection completes the competition screenings at SciFi BCN.

Closing the Official Selection, this program gathers some of the most daring and memorable short films of the festival, offering a powerful conclusion to a journey through speculative cinema and reaffirming the vitality of science fiction as a space for imagination, experimentation, and reflection.
